Askrigg is a quiet, traditional Dales village found nestling next to the River Ure in Wensleydale and in The Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is about 5 miles from the bustling market town of Hawes. The village became famous as the setting for All Creatures Great And Small with Skeldale House on the main street and one of the pubs being the 'Drovers Arms'. There are three pubs that all sell good cask beers (some from the local Askrigg Brewery), general store (open 7 days a week) that sells newspapers and has an off licence facility, restaurants, deli. (take away meals available), pottery, art gallery, florists and tearooms. Many walks can be started from the village including along the River Ure to the spectacular Aysgarth Falls where scenes from the film Robin Hood were shot or shorter walks to the local waterfalls of Mill Gill and Whitfield Gill that are found by going to the end of Mill Lane and then following the footpaths. |
